iQOO's Gaming Tablet Has a Built-In Fan. That's Not Even the Best Part.

Gaming tablets have a size problem. Most manufacturers assume you want an 11- or 12-inch screen, as if portability doesn't matter once you've committed to a tablet. iQOO clearly disagrees. The iQOO Pad Ultra, launching in China on September 29, packs flagship-level gaming hardware into an 8.8-inch OLED display. It's the kind of spec sheet that makes you wonder why everyone else insists on turning tablets into portable monitors.

The Pad Ultra runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the just-announced chip that maxes out at 5GHz and should score over 4 million on AnTuTu. iQOO pairs it with up to 16GB of RAM, which showed up in a recent Geekbench listing. But here's where it gets interesting: iQOO built an active cooling fan directly into the tablet. You've seen this in a handful of gaming phones like the iQOO 15 Ultra, but it's rare in tablets. Combined with iQOO's custom Q4 gaming chip, the Pad Ultra promises 2K resolution gaming at 165fps with full-scene ray tracing and what the company calls "Q-flex control technology" to reduce input latency.

The 8.8-inch form factor makes this thing genuinely one-handed in a way that most gaming tablets aren't. The OLED panel should deliver at least 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh, though iQOO hasn't confirmed exact specs yet. There's a hole-punch front camera, slim bezels, and color options in Ender Black or Star Silver. The square camera module and visible cooling vent give it a distinct gaming-hardware look that won't be mistaken for an iPad.

iQOO stuffed a 9,000mAh battery inside, which is impressive given the compact footprint, and it charges at 66W. For context, that's faster than most tablets this size and should mean reasonably quick top-ups between gaming sessions. The tablet also includes built-in livestreaming tools with native high-frame-rate output and automated highlight clipping, so it's clearly aimed at people who want to broadcast their gameplay without juggling extra apps.

No word yet on global availability or pricing. iQOO tends to keep its most aggressive hardware in China, which is a shame because this tablet addresses one of the biggest complaints about gaming tablets: they're all too big. If you've been waiting for a flagship Android tablet that doesn't require two hands and a backpack, the Pad Ultra might be the first real option. Whether it stays exclusive to China or makes its way west is the only question that matters now.
