JSAUX, better known for its Steam Deck accessories and docking stations, just launched VOIDJOY, a dedicated controller sub-brand. The first product out the gate is the VOIDJOY SkyLark S1 Pro Portable Controller, and it's a clear play for the portable gaming crowd that's tired of choosing between portability and features.
The timing makes sense. With the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Legion Go turning portable PC gaming into an actual category, there's room for controllers that split the difference between full-size precision and something you can actually throw in a bag. JSAUX has been selling Steam Deck cases and screen protectors for years, so they know exactly who's buying.
What's interesting here isn't just the controller itself, but the decision to spin up an entirely separate brand for it. JSAUX could have slapped their name on this thing and called it a day. Instead, they're betting that controllers deserve their own identity, which suggests this isn't a one-off experiment. The "VOIDJOY" name is trying a bit too hard to sound like a premium gaming brand, but at least it signals ambition beyond being the accessory company that makes good dongles.
The "portable" designation in the SkyLark S1 Pro's name is doing a lot of work. Most portable controllers sacrifice build quality or features to hit a smaller form factor, or they're just regular controllers with a travel case. The question is whether JSAUX found a sweet spot or if this is another compromise nobody asked for.
For a company that built its reputation on solving the little problems Steam Deck owners complain about on Reddit, launching a dedicated controller line is a logical next step. Whether gamers want yet another controller brand is a different question entirely. The market's already crowded with options from 8BitDo, GuliKit, and a dozen other companies chasing the same audience.
Still, if anyone knows what portable PC gamers actually want, it's probably the company that's been selling them accessories for the past few years. The SkyLark S1 Pro will need to prove it's more than just competent to break through, but JSAUX has earned enough goodwill to get people to at least take a look.
